The Dates You Need To Know About When Booking Your Wedding Day

by Warwick House

Thinking about booking your wedding date? Looking at all the dates available? Not all dates are equal though because there are some dates that traditionally some brides and grooms like to avoid. On the upside, sometimes they can be great dates to book and get the wedding venue you really want. Take a look to find out what these dates are:

Friday the 13th

If you’re having a weekday wedding and are looking at a Friday as being a good day, you may want to avoid a Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th is traditionally associated with bad luck and arose in the Middle Ages from the story of Jesus’ last supper and crucifixion in which there were 13 people present the night before his death. Quite why when the 13th falls on a Friday is considered back is not really known but is ingrained in Western culture.

This of course leads to many brides and grooms not wanting to get married on a Friday the 13th because of its supposed links with bad luck. However, it is of course complete superstition and there is absolutely no evidence that those married on a Friday the 13th are any more unlucky than those couples getting married on any other day.

What it does mean however is that if you are superstitious you may want to avoid it. If you aren’t however, it may be a great day to book your wedding on as you may be more likely to get this date free!!

For your reference, in 2017, Friday the 13th falls on Friday 13 January and Friday 13 October.

Bank Holidays

Getting married on a Bank Holiday can be a good or bad thing depending upon your viewpoint, what sort of wedding you are having and who your guests are. On the upside, you and your guests will be able to enjoy a longer weekend and Bank Holidays are always really chilled out days and that’s perfect for most weddings. The downside is that many people go away around Bank Holidays as they can get get a holiday in without using too much of their leave at work. You may also find that some wedding suppliers charge a bit more thanks to the fact it is a Bank Holiday.

For your reference, Bank Holidays in 2017 are as follows:

14 and 17 April 2017 – Easter Bank Holidays

Major Football Matches

If you want your wedding day to be just about you and your loved one then you may want to avoid getting married during a major sporting event! Thankfully there are no Olympics or World Cup’s in 2017 which can be a major distraction but there are the regular sporting events such as the FA Cup Final and the Champions League Final. If you’ve got lots of guests that are football fans, this can be a bit of a distraction so you might want to look at other dates. However, if you’re a football fan yourself you may want to incorporate the match into your day and provide an area to watch it at your venue.

For your information, the FA Cup Final in 2017 is scheduled for May 27 and the UEFA Champions League Final is scheduled for June 3.

The Wimbledon Final will take place on Sunday 16th July

The Golf Masters run from 3rd-9th April
