Let’s take a look at 24 hours in the life of the bride and groom and suggest ways you can get the most out of your day without feeling the strain.
1. Sleep
While it may sound a little boring, getting a good night’s sleep the night before your wedding day is the most important piece of advice we can provide. Many brides and grooms now have their hen and stag nights well in advance of their wedding day, so there’s no excuse for not getting to bed nice and early.
A good night’s sleep is the best way to prepare for what’s next. The only trouble is, you’ll probably have so much going on in your head, sleep might be long in coming!
2. A good breakfast
If you’re feeling the pressure or the nerves on your wedding day, eating might be the last thing you want to do. However, it’s also the most important meal of the day, especially today. A good breakfast will provide the energy you need to get ready and to survive much of the morning.
If it helps, have a breakfast with your parents, your bridesmaids or close friends. You would be surprised how much you can eat while you’re chatting.
3. Drink plenty of water
Hydration is key to our wellbeing. It also keeps us looking fresh, our brains working properly and our bodies able to cope with the rigours of the day. Lack of water also stresses the body as it tries to do what it needs to do with less water than it requires. That’s extra stress you really don’t need!
Keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Add one or two to your bridal survival kit and task someone close to help keep you hydrated. Yes it means going to the bathroom more often, in that dress, but it will help you in more ways than you can imagine.
4. Graze
Even after a decent, hearty breakfast, keep grazing as much as you can throughout the day. Try to avoid sweets and chocolate if you can as they can cause sugar spikes. Try things like fruit, nuts, trail mix, peanut butter sandwiches and things that contain slow release energy. Find something you like and something you have tried before and keep a steady supply of them with you all day. Add snacks to your survival kit and make sure whoever keeps you hydrated keeps you fed too.
Avoid messy food as it will drip on your dress. Avoid too much caffeine and energy drinks if at all possible too. Like sweets and chocolate, they do cause sugar spikes, but they result in a crash which you don’t want halfway through your wedding day!
A coffee or two or a bar of chocolate in-between other things is fine, but don’t depend on them alone to keep you going.
5. Spare time for yourself during your reception
If you’re providing a buffet and a sit-down dinner at your reception, make sure you eat plenty. It’s tempting to be caught up in the moment and forget to eat, but don’t.
We have mentioned delegating someone to keep you fed and watered during the day. This may seem odd and not something you would normally consider. Take it from us, there is so much going on during your wedding that you really are going to need all the help you can get. So take the advice and go with it, You’ll thank us for it afterwards!
